Information about Bronx Community College tuition payment plan, registering in a technical training program, and taking free tests online. Which college degrees give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? Some students select a major because it may be valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major simply because they enjoy the subject material. As the Bronx Community College admissions office has to analyze many applications, your goal is to stand out in a good way. If you need financial aid in order to complete college, you should consider researching a tuition payment plan well before your expected starting date. Moreover, there are tuition-assistance programs available, including Pell grants and other federal student loan programs. Plus loans typically carry low interest rates, and are therefore more cost-effective for tuition payment plans than private student loans.

Admissions officers seek to learn how a given applicant thinks, and what kind of person they are. The most popular college major is business administration, split evenly between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, the fields of education, English and liberal arts dominate the list. If you choose, online education gives you the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript. Alternatively, you may be able to complete online credits for a grade. Distance education may supplant high-priced textbooks, as many books are now published digitally on Kindle or Google Books.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Bronx Community College tuition payment plan
There are about 7,000 accredited schools in the USA, which collectively enroll 15 million students, and award two million bachelors degrees every year. If you remain true to your career interests, not just going after salary, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year university, and you can earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By taking some of your required degree courses online, you may be able to graduate a semester early, thus saving money on tuition. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your free time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps. Udemy is a startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Similarly, Khan Academy now offers free lecture videos served through YouTube. Then there's Coursera, a competing software platform, with millions of enrolled students from around the world. Finally, MIT announced that their open courseware platform (OCW) will be available at no cost.

Online Tests - Free Practice!

This section offers practice tests in several engineering subject areas. Each of the following multiple-choice tests has 10 questions to work on. No sign-up required, just straight to the test.

Admissions Process

Most colleges accept either the SAT or ACT, and have formulas for converting raw test scores. Colleges use these standardized tests because there are substantial differences in curricula, grading, and difficulty among US high schools. The SAT test has a separate vocabulary section while the ACT has a separate science reasoning section. On average, over half of students retaking the SAT saw improvements in their scores. Further, Advanced Placement exams are offered in a variety of physical sciences, offering you college credit for honors-level classes that you have taken while still in high school. Test yourself with practice exams online, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests.

Higher education is undergoing rapid technological change, with entire institutions adopting the use of online learning methods. High school grades are the most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice. An ideal academic record is one of increasingly better grades, in courses of progressive difficulty. About half of colleges use a waiting list, and many community colleges have agreements with four-year universities, so that the transfer of credits is ensured.

Financial Aid Information

Government scholarships and grants, combined with private scholarships, only account for a third of total college aid. Loans, earnings, and savings make up the remaining two-thirds. It costs nothing to apply for financial aid, so just do it. In fact, millions of students that would have qualified for some financial aid were late in submitting required forms, so they were passed over. The official FAFSA website is www.fafsa.ed.gov and is free. Merit-based aid is a package of scholarships and grants awarded to students with special talents.

Academic scholarships are highly competitive, and are usually awarded either by the admissions office, or individual academic departments. Student loans typically have variable interest rates while federal student loans have fixed rates. Federal Direct Student Loans are funded by the US Treasury. Alternatively, student credit cards may seem like a good short-term solution, but the interest rates are high, and credit cards often carry an annual fee. The College Board Scholarship Search service advertises several thousand sources for possible scholarship funds. Trade unions may offer scholarships for union members and their dependent children.

Federal Direct Student Loans, also known as Direct Loans or FDLP loans, are funded from the Treasury, while private student loans are not guaranteed, and offered directly by participating banks, credit unions, and finance companies. When Federal student loans enter the repayment period, a borrower usually has up to 10 years to repay the total amount, and while federal student loans can be dismissed on the basis of permanent disability, private student loans typically can't be discharged outside of bankruptcy proceedings. The best financial aid plan is to aggressively pursue scholarships, and grant funding where available, combined with personal savings.
